About

The Mitre10 MEGA Buggy Walk’s are a free event occurring on the first Thursday of each month throughout the year. The walks take place at parks and tracks around the greater Wellington Region, on buggy friendly tracks, and at a different location each month. They are aimed at parents, caregivers or grandparents with children under five years of age. Participants are encouraged to bring their family and friends along.

The Mitre10 MEGA Buggy Walks are organised by Sport Wellington and have been held monthly in the Wellington Region since late 2006.

All the walks start at 10.30am, we encourage participants to arrive and meet from 10.00am. There is no need to register, just turn up on the day and take part! Free coffee is provided for participants, before and after the walk by our wonderful sponsors l’Affare coffee and the Southern Cross Garden Bar & Restaurant are also there with their free BBQ or baking. The walks take approximately 45mins to 1 hour depending on the track and fitness levels and showcase the best the region has to offer.

In the summer months the Buggy Walks are held in Greater Wellington Regional Council Parks and Forests, where a ranger will lead the walk and give information on the track or park. The walks in winter are generally held in more urban areas to allow for more consistent track conditions for participants. There are often excellent picnic areas at the walk locations for people to stay have a picnic afterwards.

The main objectives of the walks are to encourage parents/caregivers to get out and about with their young ones and discover buggy friendly tracks. Many of the walks are in areas that are not always that well known so it certainly gives added incentive for participants to get involved and see some of the hidden gems of the Wellington region! Check out where the next walk is on our website and we look forward to having you, your family and friends come along.

Our walks unfortunately have to be cancelled when the weather is bad (heavy persistent rain or treacherous conditions on the tracks). Check out our Facebook page from 8.30am on the day of the walk for a cancellation message if the weather looks very bad.

Please note that a lot of the walks are on bush tracks (mainly the summer walks) so small strollers may find it difficult. A mountain buggy is recommended to make the walk easier on you. Please have your child buckled in and use the hand strap on the buggy handle where possible.
